Book Binding

Spiral, perfect (paperback) and hard-cover binding for books, notes, manuals and theses. Single copies to bulk runs, with cover lamination.

Book binding at Malka Xerox Centre covers everything from a single spiral-bound set of notes to hard-bound thesis copies and perfect-bound runs of several hundred study books. The right binding depends on how the book will be used, and we help you choose before you commit.

Spiral binding uses a plastic coil through punched pages with a clear front sheet and a board back. It opens a full 360 degrees and lies flat, which is why coaching centres use it for notes, test series and practice sheets that students write in, and why colleges use it for lab manuals and record books. It is quick, economical and available in several coil colours.

Perfect binding, also called paperback or glue binding, gives a square printed spine and a laminated cover, so the finished book looks like one from a bookshop. It is the standard choice for study books, question banks, prospectuses, institute magazines and self-published books between roughly 60 and 500 pages. Hard (case) binding wraps the book block in rigid boards with a cloth or printed cover and gold or silver lettering on the spine, and is used for university theses and dissertations, institute records, project reports and anything that needs to survive years on a shelf. For thin booklets of up to about 48 pages, saddle stitching — folded sheets stapled at the spine — is the fastest and most economical option.

You can bring already-printed pages to our Kapoorthala counter for binding, or have us print and bind together from a PDF. We bind in bulk for coaching centres and institutes, pack by batch, invoice with GST, and courier anywhere in India. Thesis binding to university specifications is usually same day in Lucknow. Message us on WhatsApp with the page count, quantity and the binding you have in mind, and we will confirm the price and turnaround.

Questions

Book Binding: frequently asked questions

What is perfect binding?+
Perfect binding is the glue binding used for paperbacks: the pages are bound into a square printed spine inside a laminated card cover, giving a bookshop finish. It suits books of roughly 40 to 500 pages.
What is the difference between hardcover and paperback binding?+
Hardcover (case) binding wraps the book block in rigid boards covered in cloth or a printed wrap, with spine lettering; it is heavier, costlier and built to last decades. Paperback (perfect) binding uses a flexible laminated cover and is the standard for books sold or distributed in numbers.
What is the difference between spiral binding and wiro binding?+
Spiral binding uses a continuous plastic coil; wiro (wire-o) binding uses a double-loop metal wire. Both open a full 360 degrees and lie flat. Spiral is more economical and comes in colours; wiro looks more formal and is often used for corporate manuals and calendars.
Which binding is best for a thesis or dissertation?+
Hard binding, with gold or silver lettering on the spine and front cover, is what most universities require for the final submission copies. Spiral binding is fine for drafts and review copies. Tell us your university format and we will match it.
Which binding is best for study material and notes?+
Spiral or wiro binding, because the book lies flat on the desk and students can fold it back while writing. For study books that need a printed spine and a longer life, perfect binding is the better choice.
How many pages can spiral binding hold?+
Comfortably up to about 300 pages of 70 to 80 gsm paper with a large coil; thicker books get a bigger coil or are split into two volumes. For books over 400 pages, perfect or hard binding is usually the better option.
What is the minimum page count for perfect binding?+
About 40 pages, so that the spine is thick enough to glue securely and carry printed text. Thinner booklets are saddle stitched instead.
What is saddle stitching and how many pages can it take?+
Saddle stitching folds printed sheets and staples them through the spine, the way thin magazines and brochures are bound. It works for booklets of up to about 48 pages; page counts must be multiples of four.
Can you bind pages I have already printed?+
Yes. Bring the printed pages to our Kapoorthala counter or courier them to us, and we will spiral, wiro, perfect or hard bind them. We can also print the cover for you.
Should I choose gloss or matt lamination for the cover?+
Gloss lamination makes colours vivid and is popular for study books and children's books; matt lamination gives a softer, premium look used for literary paperbacks and business books. Both protect the cover for a full year of handling.
Can you print lettering on the spine of a hardcover book?+
Yes. Hardcover books get gold or silver foil lettering on the spine and front cover, or a full printed wrap with the design of your choice.
How long does binding take?+
Single theses and spiral jobs are usually same day in Lucknow. Bulk perfect or hard binding runs take 2 to 5 working days depending on quantity, plus courier time for delivery outside Lucknow.
How much does book binding cost?+
It depends on the binding type, page count, cover and quantity: spiral is the most economical, perfect binding next, and hard binding the most. Send the page count, quantity and binding type on WhatsApp for an exact quote.
Do you do bulk binding for coaching institutes, colleges and publishers?+
Yes. Bulk spiral, perfect and hard binding is our core work: modules, question banks, lab manuals, course readers and books are bound by batch, packed in sealed cartons and invoiced with GST.
Do you courier bound books outside Lucknow?+
Yes. Bound books are packed in sealed cartons and shipped by tracked courier anywhere in India, typically arriving in 1 to 6 working days depending on the city.
Do you provide a GST invoice?+
Yes. Every order is invoiced with GST from our GST-registered business, and we accept UPI, bank transfer and cash at the counter.
